It’s very hard sometimes to see quiet, to hear peace, or to feel stillness.

It often takes the catalyst of an event, or a series of events to force us to begin changes, at least it always has been that way for me. I don’t like change much but once I am forced by life to make those deviations from the path that I had stubbornly insisted on, I discover that it’s really quite an improvement. Some of my greatest disappointments have been when my childlike stubbornness interferes with what could happen for me. Add the realization that it’s not “all about me” and I can be down right embarrassed. This year has been one of those.
It has certainly been one chocked full of unexpected challenges, unpredictable path changes, and personal opportunities for growth, and it’s not done yet. I have been a little bit off kilter as I repeatedly insisted on resuming the year’s planned agenda, to no avail. Easy paths rarely afford true growth. Now I am beginning to feel the shifted pace and see the inkling of the improved trajectory. Like popping out of the treeline on an unfamiliar path while still mumbling about ‘my plan’ and ‘my timeframe’ to see an amazing vista rich in color and texture crowned by an astounding sky, and stopping dead in my tracks.

At that moment, one begins to see quiet, to hear peace, and to feel stillness… and begins to understand. I am humbled and at peace with what comes next.
